Watching a boat live, the display sets, talk-back, and how quickly the split and rate respond.
Watching a boat live
- Sign in on your phone, or at app.renegadedynamics.co.uk on a laptop.
- Open your club. Boats that are streaming now are listed with the crew and the time they started.
- Tap a boat. You see what the cox sees, plus the trace.
Live watching needs the Live tier on your account or a Club subscription on the club. The boat's recorder must also be signed in and streaming.
Display sets
A display set is the arrangement of numbers and traces on the screen: which channels, in what order, at what size. The app comes with sets for a single, a small boat and an eight. You can make your own and share it with the club's other coaches. A set applies per boat class and per session type.
Talk-back
Hold the talk button to speak to the boat. The cox's phone plays it through its speaker or the cox's earpiece. Talk-back is relayed live and is not recorded anywhere.
What the split and rate on screen mean
The numbers are filtered so that they move when the crew changes something and stay still when the crew does not.
- Rate is read over three strokes and shown to the half stroke per minute. It moves when the three-stroke reading is half a stroke away from what is shown. A crew holding 18 sees 18, not 17.8, 18.2, 18.0.
- Split is read over three strokes and shown to the second. It moves when two consecutive readings agree that the shown value is a second or more out, and then walks toward the reading a second or two a stroke rather than jumping. A 6 s change arrives over four or five strokes. On a racing start the display trails the boat by at most about 6 s and is within 2 s of the settled split one stroke after the boat settles.
- After a rest, both numbers start fresh from the first strokes rather than walking from the old value. The split is blank for the first three strokes.
The stored session keeps every stroke unfiltered. The filtering is for the live number only.
The workspace
After the outing, open the session in the web version. Overlay seats, compare two pieces, step through strokes one at a time, and export the file. Every coach in the club can see every session recorded into the club.
Rosters and squads
Put the club's rowers on the roster so a crew can be named when a session starts. A junior can be on the roster without an account. Squads group the roster for the session list and for who can see what.
