Recording with a cox
The mic switch, the indicator, the audio notice, what is and is not stored.
The mic switch
Audio is off when a recording starts. The cox switches it on from the recording screen. While it is on, a MIC RECORDING indicator stays on screen. Switching it off stops the audio at once; the motion recording continues.
Tell the crew
Say that the mic is on before you switch it on. A crew in a club that has accepted the club terms has already been told that coaching sessions may be relayed live to the club's coaches; saying it again costs nothing. If someone in the boat does not want to be recorded, leave the mic off.
What is stored
- On the phone: the audio, inside the session file, next to the stroke data. Playing the session back on the phone plays the calls at the strokes they were made.
- In your account or the club: the session without the audio. The copy in the cloud contains no audio blocks.
- During a live session: the audio passes through the relay to the coaches watching and is discarded within a minute. Nobody can play it back later.
- If you tick "Keep audio 7 days" at the start: the audio of that outing is kept, separately from the session, for seven days after it ends, so the crew and coaches can play the outing back in the app with the calls, and for the cox report if you ask for one. Then it is deleted. Only signed-in members of the club who can open the session hear it; a share link carries no audio. The tick is off at every start, and your phone keeps the full recording whatever you choose.
Sending audio to us
If a future feature needs the audio, such as an AI outing report, the app asks you to choose a file and tells you what it is for before anything leaves the phone. That is a separate step and never happens automatically.
Talk-back
A coach watching live can speak to the boat. The cox hears it through the phone's speaker or an earpiece. It is relayed, not recorded.
